Clearwater Removing American Flags To Save Money

Posted by Cody Larson On August - 3 - 2009

American FlagBudget cuts seem to be the norm lately. Any entity with a budget, whether it be free market or government is seeing a budget cut of some sort (except in Washington, the Savior is spending tax payer dollars like it’s his job). Citizens living near the beautiful beaches of Clearwater, Florida are seeing more budget cuts at a local level. Budgets are tight and only the important items will be able to live to see another day. So that means canning 13 flags of the home land? Clearwater, what is going on down there? Well as it turns out, Kevin Dunbar and Bill Horne put their heads together and decided that post 4th of July, in a time when America is struggling economically during a war, removing American flags in the city of Clearwater is a great way to save money. Oops.

As expected, they got an ear full from those in the city, including veterans. Today they met to discuss restoring the flags taken down last week. The plan has since then been completely scrapped. Apparently Mayor Frank Hibbard had no idea this was even on the table. My question is, why would you even consider this as a means to save money? The American flag is a beautiful work of art and if anything we need many more of them. There are not enough American flags flying in the city of Clearwater. Remember this Clearwater, when you vote for your city officials. Do want un-patriotic goons willing to take down the star spangled banner with the snap of a finger running your city?

Tampa Bay Experience’s Dan York Concedes

Posted by Cody Larson On July - 24 - 2009

Cody Larson vs Dan YorkIt is not too often that a talk radio show host will concede to anyone whether it be a caller or a topic of discussion. However, today that was just simply not the case. Dan York, host of The Tampa Bay Experience on 820 AM WWBA, actually conceded to a caller today. Just who that caller was, is what is going to give you a chuckle. Yours truly, was the one York conceded to.

Dan made comments concerning President Barrack Obama and the controversy concerning whether or not he is truly an American citizen born in the United States. (DISCLAIMER: I don’t believe one way or the other about the birth certificate issue, the “facts” from both sides make my head explode.) His claim was that if and when Barrack Obama serves out his term(s) and it happens to come out that he was in fact born in Kenya, he would not care.

I don’t usually do this, but such comments prompted me to actually pay attention and memorize the call-in line to discuss the issue at hand with Mr. York. I got through and spoke briefly with the young radio host. Prior to me calling, Dan said that the prerequisite stating Presidential candidates must be born in the US, was ready to be removed. He was of the belief that anyone that is here long enough and serves their country, must not be held back by where they are born. It was this stated belief, that was used to form his opinion on a possible Obama deception. So, I called him on it.

I see where he was coming from with his view of the current law prohibiting non-US born citizens from running, although I disagree. My point was that even though he disagrees with the law as it is now, he cannot just give Barrack Obama any such pass. Obama was sworn in under the law as it is now and if it does turn out that he is not native to the US, he has essentially lied to us all with malicious intent. He would have purposefully duped the entire United States. It was this point that pried those words rarely heard from a show host of any kind, “I concede.”

NOTE: I have nothing against Dan York, his words or his show. He is an excellent host and I actually consider myself to be a fan of his. I really appreciate a guy that will have a fair conversation with someone and admit to who may have the better point.

Possible New Law Banning Burmese Pythons

Captured Burmese Python

Following the tragic death of a 2-year old last week, Senator Bill Nelson is looking to create legislation that would ban the importation of snakes such as Burmese Pythons into the United States.

On July 1, a Burmese Python 8 1/2 feet long strangled a 2-year old baby as she slept. Her family awoke to the snake being wrapped around the child.

As it turns out the owner, Charles Darnell, did not actually have the proper license necessary to own the snake. The law was already being broken here, but limiting importation of such snakes in the future may slightly limit issues like these in the future. Often times these snakes are captured in the wild, with more than 180,000 of these things living in Florida, and then domesticated as “pets”.

Having such a dangerous reptile as a pet is beyond me. With a 2-year old in the house, having such a pet is inexcusable. I’m all for people having the freedom to have pets that make them happy, but a line needs to be drawn somewhere.
